A very appropriate color for this bollard, it is at the entrance to a fire extinguisher company. This is on Grote Street.
Welcome to my Bollards of Buffalo Blog. Bollards come in many shapes and sizes and are used in many different locations to control the flow of traffic, protect buildings and other structures, they are also used in harbors to tie up marine vessels. I will be posting on a regular basis but not every day. I will be searching out all areas of Buffalo in the coming days. I will also post photos that are not Bollards but will be historic or interesting. I hope you will enjoy the Blog.

How about a couple of huge indoor bollards today, these are in a parking garage and protect the incoming traffic from a turning lane. These are about 4 feet high and have steel loop on top for easy moving by a high lift. There are also some standard pipe bollards on the island behind them that protect the ticket and arm apparatus. This is the Adams Ramp on Washington St.

With the onset of winter it is just about time for the New York Power Authority to begin installing the boom across the mouth of the Niagara River in Lake Erie. This prevents the ice from going down river and creating a jam at the water intakes for the Power Project. The boom is stored on property by the Buffalo River, the tugs pull the boom sections down river and connect them together in the lake.

Here is a very nice upping stone I found on Prospect Ave. It looks to be carved out of granite. I suspect it was moved here because it is placed on the front lawn by the sidewalk. If it was original it more than likely would have been near the street for passengers disembarking from their carriages.

Here is a set of nice corner bollards protecting a gate on Cleveland Ave. The wall was once part of the John J. Albright estate.
