Saturday was a great fall day with some nice cloud formations. I took these skyline pics from the Erie Basin Marina.

Very modern looking bollards inside of a parking garage. They protect the elevators at the turning lane in the ramp, they are made of concrete with a hard plastic covering and are about 3 feet high.

Here are two very good looking bollards that are on the outer harbor path that was recently installed. Nice design with the ball on top. Here are some of the plaques that are displayed on the impressive looking post made of iron.

It is kind of unusual to see a huge ship anchor sitting in a parking lot of a bar. At closer inspection you can tell it was placed there and painted and taken care of. I don't know what ship it came from or how old it is but I can remember this being here for quite a few years. This is behind the Malamute Bar on the Michigan St side.

Usually these hitching posts are by the street. This one is almost next to the house. It doesn't look like it is in great shape. This is on North Pearl St.

I've had this pic for a while so I thought I'd post it to clean up my folder a little.

The statue of Samuel Manning Welch is located in Niagara Square in Buffalo, NY. It is just north of City Hall on a small triangular patch of land bordered by Niagara St, South Elmwood Ave. and Jerge Dr. This statue was erected by his comrades and friends to honor is life and service.
Born 1851, Died 1919.
Served in the National Guard of New York 1887-1911.
Colonel, 65th Infantry 1898 in the Spanish American War.
Brigadier General 4th Brigade National Guard of NY 1911-1915.

Back to a couple of door bollards today. They appear to be made of cast iron as the rust is bleeding through the paint. These are at a business on Washington St.

At first glance this might be a strange looking picture. This is an old foundation for the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W). When the railroad ceased to exist it freed up a lot of land, this building was built on the right of way. So they incorporated the foundation right into the structure. This building is still involved with transportation, it is a cartage and customs house. This is located on Moore St.

I really don't know what to make of these. Two very large pieces of sandstone that look like that they belonged to a pillar or gate. Now they are just used to protect a driveway on Lexington Ave.

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

This is something a little unique. A couple of old bollards that protected a driveway that are incorporated into a new fence. You can clearly see it up close that these posts are much older than the fence. These are on Virginia St. in Allentown.

Future Bollard?

I hope not, just a canon on display at the wharf for Navy Week.

Sunday, September 16, 2012

Navy Week is in full swing and I have some pics of The USS Hurricane. This is docked at the visiting ships dock at the Erie Basin.

Here we go with a couple of nice looking Hitching Post's on Porter Ave. These are made of granite and still have the hardware attached. A nice find since cars are always parked along this stretch of Porter.

Here are some photos of the Brig Niagara that is visiting Buffalo as part of the Navy Week Celebration.

Wow, talk about overkill. I spotted this mess at a strip mall in Kenmore. At closer inspection these are hollow rubber bollards surrounding some concrete bollards to protect a ground sign in the parking lot.

Oliver Hazard Perry, War of 1812 Hero. "We have met the enemy and they are ours..." after the Battle of Lake Erie, 10 September 1813." I leave it to your discretion to strike or not, but the American colors must not be pulled down over my head today."

It has been 199 years since Oliver Hazard Perry spoke those famous words "We have met the enemy and they are ours" 10 September 1813. A replica of the his ship the Brig Niagara will be in Buffalo this week for Navy Week, I will post some pictures later this week.

But back to the statue, it is in Front Park facing Lake Erie. It is surrounded by some very nice looking bollards all carved out of white marble. The base of this statue made of pink granite has some great detail on it along with a beautiful bronze rendition of Perry Himself. Dedicated on 9/25/1916

NEVER FORGET!

Monday, September 10, 2012

What a great find, I took a little ride to the Erie Canal along Sweeney St. Brand new bollards installed along the walkway. Nice detail on them plus the ball on top. The building is now Remington Lofts and The Remington Oyster Bar and Tavern.

Here is another old disused fire hydrant. I have never seen a hydrant painted green. There is a wrench attached to it to operate the hydrant, there is a seal attached to it also. Maybe this is in working order after all. I will keep an eye out for more of these.

The thing about alternate side parking is that you miss a lot of stuff when you drive by. So when the cars move to the other side of the street on the next day you get some gems. Here is a very cool looking hitching post. It is not that old, what is next to it is. This is an Upping Stone, it was used to assist people in and out of carriages and up and down on horses. This is made of sandstone and is on Park St. in Allentown.

These very nice and well cared for door bollards are at the loading area at the M&T Center. They are about 4 feet high and made out of cast iron.

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

There seems to be a lot of these around, the dual purpose bollard. These light up a court yard area in front of The Olympic Building on Pearl St. It is a former YMCA with a modern front built in. These bollards are probably about 15 years old and are holding up ok.

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

I had these two photo's for a while, These are at a local 7-11 store. These are actually plastic covers over a metal pole. They look a little nicer that your average bollard protecting a gas meter and an ice locker.
